Is this the DMV?
No. CarsNReg is a private registration service. The California DMV offers the same transactions online or at a field office without a service fee.
Where do the live fees come from?
From the vehicle’s California registration record. A quote shows those amounts. It does not submit the transaction.
Why ask for the last five of the VIN?
That matches the plate well enough to find the record. Add the full 17-character VIN when you want us to price that exact vehicle.
What if a smog check or a ticket is blocking it?
The DMV will not finish a renewal until smog is posted and holds are cleared. Those items show up on a live quote as errors or extra lines, and they are not included in a published-fee estimate.
